Excerpted from the Oct. 31 issue of National Journal magazine:
Andrew Noyes is moving to Facebook's lobbying shop as manager of public policy communications. He has covered the technology beat for National Journal Group's CongressDaily since 2006 and launched the Tech Daily Dose blog the same year. He knows that making the leap to private industry is a definite role reversal. Tech lobbyists he once called for quotes are already welcoming him to the "dark side," while fellow reporters tease that they'll want exclusive scoops.
Although Silicon Valley heavyweights Google and Microsoft have sprawling D.C. lobby shops, the social-networking website is just establishing its K Street operations. Noyes, 29, will divide his time between putting out public-relations fires and drawing on his extensive Rolodex to help the company get established in Washington. Facebook hired its first lobbyist in April, and Noyes will become just the third employee in the office.
* Effective Nov. 7, Noyes can be reached at andrew{at}andrewnoyes.net.

It has been exactly one year since the lights went out at National Journal's Technology Daily but tech and telecom policy reporting remains front-and-center in the pages of our magazine, on nationaljournal.com and in CongressDaily.
As a reminder, our TechCentral page is a one-stop shop for tons of tech news:
▪ Issue Of The Week: Every Monday, a detailed look at a pertinent policy topic
▪ This Week's Highlights: Every Monday, a forecast of the week in tech
▪ Executive Summary: Every Friday, a summary of the week's big tech news
▪ Wired In Washington: Alternate Wednesdays, tasty telecom updates
▪ People Column: Keeping an eye on the revolving door

Three cheers for PC Magazine, which has honored Tech Daily Dose as one of its 100 favorite blogs. The hat-tip comes on the heels the magazine naming our little spot on the Web one of the Top 100 Undiscovered Web Sites of 2008 back in August. All I can think of is Sally Field's memorable 1985 Academy Award speech upon accepting her second Oscar in five years: "The first time I didn't feel it, but this time I feel it, and I can't deny the fact that you like me, right now, you like me!" The difference is we felt it both times. Thanks.
Here's what PC Magazine had to say: "Not all the major technology innovation and news come from the West Coast. The corridors of power in Washington, D.C., have an impact, and that's why this slice of NationalJournal.com's CongressDaily covers the news in regulation, lobbying, and litigation that can change our cyber-lives." We were sandwiched in between listings for TechCrunch and Techdirt. Not bad company if I do say so myself. See the full list here -- and lets keep up the momentum in 2009!

Publication Notice: CongressDaily will resume publication Jan. 5, 2009 but breaking news and updates will be posted online as needed. Tech Daily Dose may also be refreshed periodically in between menorah lighting and Christmas caroling.

We know you spend all of your waking hours on Facebook (don’t worry, we won’t tell your boss) so why don’t you become a friend of Tech Daily Dose via the popular social networking site? Click here to join us and while you're there, become a fan of National Journal's Under The Influence blog too.

CongressDaily will resume publication the week of Sept. 8 after the congressional recess. In the meantime, keep up to date with the latest news with online updates on nationaljournal.com. Tech Daily Dose will go dark for a week or so and posts may slow to a trickle as staff prepares for the Democratic National Convention held Aug. 25-28 in Denver, Colo., and the Republican National Convention held Sept. 1-4 in Minneapolis-St.Paul, Minn. Rest up, dear readers. The campaign fun has only just begun.
We hope you are enjoying the new and improved NationalJournal.com. We're still working out some kinks so please be patient with us. If you're a subscriber, you might have noticed that TechCentral, our one-stop shop for tech policy and related coverage is a bit hidden. To find it, visit the CongressDaily section of the Web site, click on the "hot topics" tab and scroll down -- or you can follow this link. As upgrades continue, there should be multiple, easy ways to get to TechCentral so stay tuned.
It's a new day over at Tech Daily Dose -- and it shows. As you've probably noticed, our packaging has changed slightly to reflect our repositioning under the CongressDaily heading. It's all part of National Journal Group's plan to increase its technology-related coverage throughout all of its publications.
I envision this blog evolving to include a range of topics that had otherwise been noted in Technology Daily (and may not be of particular interest to our broadened audience in CongressDaily) so if there's something blogworthy on the tech policy front, please don’t hesitate to send it my way -- anoyes@nationaljournal.com.
As many of you already know by now, Thursday's issue of Technology Daily will be the publication's last. While Tech Daily Dose will carry on with the backing of Congress Daily, the Beltway Blogroll is calling it quits.
My editor Danny Glover launched the unique Web product (along with a companion column for NationalJournal.com) in June 2005 with the goal of proving that blogs would quickly gain power in policy circles inside the Beltway. Mission accomplished!
Glover posted a farewell to his readers here but he is by no means leaving the blogosphere. AirCongress, a portal to audio and video of, by and about Congress that he started in 2006, will stay online. He also kicked off a one-year blog project dubbed Taxation With Representation with the purpose highlighting America's tax troubles.
Glover's full-time career move into Internet video is just days away too, so stay tuned. I'm sure he'll let us know what he's up to.
The following letter was posted prominently on Technology Daily's main page on Tuesday so I thought I'd share it with blog readers. The shutdown described below should not impact Tech Daily Dose... So please keep reading and thank you for your support!

Dear Reader:
After nine years of publication, National Journal's Technology Daily bids farewell this Thursday.
In announcing this decision recently, we noted that National Journal Group is moving to increase technology-related coverage throughout all of its publications. In particular, National Journal's CongressDaily -- our twice daily publication for Capitol Hill insiders -- will be adding staff for this purpose.
And, beginning next Monday, Feb. 4, the online edition of CongressDaily will contain a new, continuously updated section that will include stories of interest to the technology sector in one convenient place. This section will also be home to several of the weekly features that have appeared regularly in Technology Daily over the years.
If you are interested in a trial subscription to CongressDaily, please call 800-424-2921 or e-mail us at memberships@nationaljournal.com.
With best regards,
Lou Peck
Editor In Chief
A note to Technology Daily subscribers: Friday's full PM Edition was sent to readers via e-mail a little later than usual. Due to technical difficulties (a family of menacing squirrels possibly wreaking havoc in the IT room?) we were unable to post the edition to our Web site. We apologize for any inconvenience and hope that it is cleared up soon.

Happy holidays from Andrew, Aliya, Chris, Danny, David, Heather, Michael, Theresa and the rest of the Technology Daily gang! We will not publish again until Monday, Jan. 7 so feel free to take a break from tech policy for a couple of weeks. Readers, you deserve some rest and relaxation -- and we do too.
Technology Daily and Tech Daily Dose will not publish Wednesday, Nov. 21, through Friday, Nov. 23, due to the Thanksgiving holiday. We will resume publication on Monday, Nov. 26. Enjoy your turkey (or Tofurky) feasts and we'll see you next week.
Technology Daily and the Tech Daily Dose are back after a week-long hiatus. Did you miss us as much as we missed you? We're feverishly cleaning out our jam-packed inboxes and catching up with all the important news we might have missed during our happy little holiday. Bear with us -- it shouldn't take long before we're firing on all cylinders again. In the meantime, check out the AM Edition for this morning's top tech headlines.

Technology Daily and Tech Daily Dose will not publish Monday, July 2 through Wednesday, July 4 due to the Independence Day holiday. We will resume publication on Thursday, July 5. To celebrate, take a look at JibJab's latest video, a remixed version of the Star Spangled Banner. Enjoy!
Tech Daily Dose made its debut as an Election Night blog last November. Since then, we have resurrected it periodically for covering key events like the Consumer Electronics Show in January and the Tech Policy Summit last month. We've also used the blog to publish news that has occurred off Tech Daily's normal deadlines.
Well, consider that trial period over. Senior Writer Andrew Noyes has done an excellent job of feeding our blog beast and relishes the thought of doing it more often. As of today, Tech Daily Dose is a permanent feature of coverage at National Journal's Technology Daily.
Andrew will be the primary blogger, but other Tech Daily staffers may contribute periodically as well. We're also pondering ways to incorporate ideas from readers into the mix here, so if you have ideas, feel free to e-mail me at dglover@nationaljournal.com.
