            <title>Panel Examines Science, Foreign Policy</title>
            <description><![CDATA[<p>The President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology meets Thursday and Friday at the National Academy of Sciences building to discuss, among other things, the role of science and technology in foreign policy and development assistance. Scheduled speakers include <strong>Kerri-Ann Jones</strong>, assistant secretary for oceans and international environmental and scientific affairs at the State Department and <strong>Nina Fedoroff</strong>, the department's science and technology adviser.</p>

<p>PCAST members will also be briefed on a report from the National Research Council called "A New Biology for the 21st Century: Ensuring the United States Leads the Coming Biology Revolution." Speakers include Massachusetts Institute of Technology professor <strong>Phillip Sharp</strong>, and <strong>Thomas Connelly</strong>, executive vice president for DuPont. Science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) federal programs and education initiatives will also be discussed.</p>
